Our commitment to accessibility
ilmCore is committed to making learning accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities.
Accessibility is an important part of how we design and develop ilmCore. Our goal is to provide students, educators, and administrators with an experience that can be effectively used across different abilities, assistive technologies, devices, and methods of interaction.
We view accessibility as an ongoing product responsibility rather than a one-time compliance exercise. As ilmCore evolves, we continually evaluate and improve the accessibility of our platform.
Accessibility standard
ilmCore is designed and developed with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA as our accessibility baseline.
Where relevant to our institutional customers, our accessibility work also takes into account accessibility requirements and standards including Section 508 of the U.S. Rehabilitation Act and EN 301 549, the European standard for accessibility of information and communication technology.
We are actively evaluating the ilmCore platform against these requirements and addressing accessibility barriers identified through our testing and review processes.
Designing for accessible learning
We work to make the core ilmCore experience usable with different forms of interaction and assistive technology. Our accessibility work includes consideration of keyboard navigation, logical focus order, semantic page structure, sufficient colour contrast, scalable and responsive content, accessible form controls and labels, meaningful status and error messages, captions and transcripts where supported, and compatibility with commonly used screen readers and other assistive technologies.
Accessibility is considered as part of the design, development, testing, and remediation of new and existing ilmCore functionality.
Testing and evaluation
ilmCore evaluates accessibility through a combination of automated accessibility testing, manual review, keyboard testing, and assistive-technology testing as appropriate.
We are also documenting the accessibility of the platform through an Accessibility Conformance Report (ACR) based on the Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT®). The ACR provides more detailed information regarding how individual accessibility criteria are supported by the ilmCore platform.
Accessibility testing and remediation are ongoing as the product develops and as accessibility standards, technologies, and user needs evolve.
Course materials and third-party content
ilmCore can present learning materials supplied by educational institutions, instructors, publishers, and third-party services, including videos, documents, images, websites, and embedded tools.
While we work to ensure that the ilmCore platform itself provides an accessible way to discover, navigate, and interact with learning materials, the accessibility of externally provided content may depend on the organization or third party that created or hosts that content.
Where we identify accessibility barriers involving integrations or externally supplied content, we work with our institutional customers and technology partners to help identify appropriate solutions or accessible alternatives.
Ongoing improvement
We recognize that accessibility is an ongoing process and that barriers may still be identified as ilmCore develops.
When accessibility issues are discovered, we assess their impact and prioritize remediation, particularly where an issue prevents or significantly limits a learner's ability to access course content or use essential functionality.
We also use feedback from students, educators, accessibility professionals, and institutional partners to guide improvements to the platform.
Feedback and accessibility support
We welcome feedback about the accessibility of ilmCore.
If you experience an accessibility barrier, have difficulty using any part of the platform with assistive technology, or need information made available in an alternative format, please contact us at [accessibility@ilmcore.com].
When reporting an accessibility issue, it is helpful to include the page or feature you were using, the nature of the problem, and, if relevant, the browser, device, or assistive technology you were using.
We will review accessibility reports and work to provide an appropriate solution, workaround, or accessible alternative wherever possible.
Accessibility documentation
Educational institutions evaluating ilmCore may request additional accessibility documentation, including our current Accessibility Conformance Report (ACR/VPAT®), accessibility testing information, and information about our accessibility practices.
